No Flickr of video emerges - Roland's 2006 Predictions Part 5
Even though flickr will support small videos in 2006, flickr itself will not be "the flickr of video" and no flickr of video will emerge in 2006. Lots of experimentation and startups but like the photoblogs before flickr, nothing will stick. My prediction is that "the flickr of video" will emerge in 2007. Love to be proven wrong on this one! Cause I want the flickr of video!

re: video
I'm surprised it's taken this long for the Flickr of video to emerge. Granted, personal video is nowhere near as ubiquitous as photos but having seen how successful Flickr was at pioneering photo sharing, and knowing full well that video will be as big, or bigger than digital still photography, why hasn't someone grabbed this opportunity by the horns?
My Ruby on Rails education is progressing. Eventually, either through my own development or through the right partner, I hope to launch a video sharing app for Canadians on Video.ca. I've been approached numerous times by companies who want to put a internet-movie order service on it like Netflix, Zip. But after seeing how poorly run those types of businesses are, and in lieu of the fact that all physical distribution of media is a dying industry, I'll stay from that type of service offering.

let me know when your video sharing app is ready
love to try it and blog about it
and consider using Drupal rather than RoR so you have to do less reinvention of the wheel!
