Nokia Software Updater won't let me update my European N95-1 and N82-1 to the latest firmware even with Fido SIM installed

The Nokia Software Updater won't let me update my European N95-1 and N82-1 to the latest firmware even with my valid Fido SIM installed and even though the Nokia Canada site says there are updates for these two phones. This used to work with my Fido SIM with prior versions of the Nokia Software update and prior N95-1 and N82-1 updates. I also tried using my Belgian, Finnish and AT&T SIMs and that didn't work either. Any ideas? Is this Canada specific? I can't believe NSU would be updated to block these firmware updates but anything's possible with Rogers and Fido I suppose !

Fw updates are governed by Product codes, not NSU

The product code governs the fw update, not the NSU. Given Nokia's inconsistencies with rolling out fw updates, it's quite possible that Nokia hasn't released a fw update for your phone's product code.

my n95-1 and n82-1 product codes *do* have updates

as i posted before (i guess this wasn't clear in the original blog post my apologies)  i was able to update these phones before AND i double checked the European and Canadian Nokia official websites and updates *do* exists for my N95 and N82 product codes

SIM don't mean a thing to NSU

Dear Roland,

SIM isn't the issue, it's product code. You'll have to find a product code listed for your phone that is unbranded, change your code with NSS and then try NSU. PS - not for the faint of heart.

as i said in the blog post

these exact same phones worked before i.e. i was able to upgrade them same phones with NSU successfully before with prior versions of NSU. Nothing has changed except the NSU version. So it's not the product code methinks! I think it's NSU :-( And I will not be changing the product codes, not into that kind of voodoo :-)

oh forgot to mention that these phones are unbranded

direct from nokia and not transmogrified wih carrier crippled firmware!
