- I would encourage Filipinos worldwide not to gate keep & judge the accents of Perlah, Princess & Trinity on The Pitt. I’ve known immigrants who lost their ability to speak in <2 years, others who still have an accent after 20 years, & others who seamlessly switch between English & their Filipino language(s) in the middle of a sentence even after 20 years. Fluency is prismatic not a binary switch :-) Of course it’s not just Filipinos! It happens to German, French speaking immigrants, etc
- And I’ve never met a Filipino born in the USA or Canada who speaks any Filipino languages fluently but that’s because I am old :-) and there weren’t many Filipino kids I met growing up in small town Ontario, Canada in the 70s and 80s. There are many such people now and for at least the last 20 years in Toronto, Vancouver and California and probably everywhere else there are lots of us :-)
