Filipiñana 2nd viewing: shot in square i.e. 1:1 re-elect Dr. Palanca, colonialism is not over in the Philippines. This movie still highly recommended.

• The re-elect Dr. Palanca terrible campaign is absolutely true; in fact truth is stranger than fiction when it comes to Filipino election campaigns at any level!
• Actually shot in 4:3 but really looks square.
• Colonialism isn’t over: 1st the Spanish, then the Americans, then the Japanese, then the Americans again (who never really left) and the Chinese want to colonize the Philipines too
• I was hoping that I had fallen asleep and that there was a happy ending but there was not. Would probably make the movie ridiculous if it ended happily.
• I’ve been to resorts like the one in the movie and wow just wow. This is so realistic. It’s also realistic the coverup and the oligarchy/illustrado taking care of their own and not caring about the other 99 million people in the Philippines.
